Why VUKA exists

Choosing what to study shouldn't feel like a guessing game.

We built VUKA because too many South African learners pick a path based on what someone else thought was a good idea. We pull together public data from DHET, Stats SA and SAGEA and explain it in plain language. It is general guidance, not professional career counselling — use it as a starting point.

A few things worth knowing

No pressure — just useful.

    Youth unemployment for ages 15–24 reached 62,8% in Q2:2026. For ages 25–34 it was 41,8%. Having no qualification at all is catastrophic.

    Graduate unemployment is 12,4% against a national rate of 33,6%. A qualification remains the single strongest predictor of employment.

    84% of large SA corporates and multinationals cannot find skilled talent (up from 79% in 2024). The problem is not too many graduates — it's the wrong graduates.
